Bone Density Scan (DEXA Scan)

- It is a non-surgical, quick, and painless procedure that uses low dose X-rays to measure the density of the bones. It is usually performed to assess the risk of osteoporosis or fractures.
- It usually takes 15 – 30 minutes.
Most of the DEXA scans need no preparation before performing them.
- Bone density scans are very safe as they use much lower radiation doses than the standard X-rays.
- Bone Density Scans are not recommended for pregnant women.
