Ultrasound
- This examination is safe and painless.
- The scan involves exposing the body to high-frequency sound waves, then capturing the waves bouncing off the tissue and converting them into a visual image.
- This method is used to show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, such as: tendons, muscles, joints, blood vessels, and internal organs.
- The examination takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Preparations necessary for the examination
- The preparations are related to the area to be examined by ultrasound.
Abdominal ultrasound
- You should not take any soft drinks or eat any food containing fat at least 7-8 hours before the test.
- Some acceptable drinks include water and coffee or tea without milk.
- Medications can be taken before the examination.
- You must consult a physician before the examination, if you are taking insulin.
- An enema should be done one to four hours before the examination
Ultrasound (arterial Doppler)
- The stomach should be as empty as possible.
- You must stop eating, drinking, smoking, and chewing gum after midnight the night before the examination.
- Teeth can be brushed, taking care to avoid swallowing water.
- It is recommended to explain the procedure to children, because the examination is very sensitive to movement, which may slow down or prevent the examination if the child moves or cries a lot.

Ultrasound of the prostate (for Men)
- You should drink a large amount of fluids and please do not empty your bladder two hours before the examination.

Breast ultrasound (for Women)
- Mammography should not be scheduled in the week before your period, as the best time is a week after your period.
- Do not use deodorant, talcum powder, or any other lotion under the arms or on the breasts on the day of the examination.

Pelvic ultrasound
- You should drink one liter of fluid approximately one hour before the examination.
- It is preferable not to empty the bladder.
- Medications can be taken before the examination.

Ultrasound to follow up pregnancy.
- In the first three months of pregnancy, please drink 3-4 cups of fluids, such as: water and juice, one hour before the examination, without emptying your bladder.
- From the fourth to ninth months of pregnancy, please drink 1-2 cups of fluid one hour before the examination, without emptying your bladder.
